Social media can be daunting. It changes fast, it’s scary and done poorly, it can ruin your reputation. Managing social media for msnbc, NBC News, the City of Seattle, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and others, I’ve used creativity, an understanding of brand values and objectives, audience interests and social platforms to drive strong engagement and growth.
WEBSITE PRODUCTION
At msnbc.com, I programmed one of the most visited news sites in the world, collaborating with designers and multimedia editors to build compelling layouts for major stories. Designing homepage coverage of Barack Obama’s historic election victory was as rewarding as it gets.
I’ve long been interested in website design and user experience. Among other projects, I built a new website highlighting summer youth programs offered by the City of Seattle, using WordPress widgets to allow users to search by program type and get more information on select programs with fewer clicks.
Video production
Social video is the impact medium of our time. I've produced a number of web videos, from interviews to promotional pieces, using tools such as Adobe Premier, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Spark, Lumen5 and others.
Infographics
I've produced a variety of infographics to explain complex policies and programs. Here's a sampling from my time as Digital Engagement Director for Seattle Mayor Ed Murray.
WEB TOOLS
I like to tinker and create tools that make information easy to find and solve user problems. An interactive map of city cooling centers and a chatbot serving visitors to the mayor’s Facebook page are a few examples.
